Kauri Cottage opening in 2017, and since then has grown to become an important part of the local community.
We open 5 days a week serving coffees, brunch, lunch and dinners.

Meet Rachel & Sunil Kassote - Kauri Cottage Owners
Sunil moved to New Plymouth in 2007 from India to further his career as a chef, while Rachel grew up right here in north Taranaki.
They met while both working as chefs in New Plymouth and after a few years working for some of the city's best restaurants, they ventured on to Wellington to gain more experience.
While in Wellington they worked at the iconic Shed 5 restaurant, where Sunil worked as a front-line chef, and Rachel worked as a pastry chef.
After spending a few years in Wellington, they decided to branch out further and expand their experience which lead them to Auckland, where Sunil took on a role as Sous Chef at the Food Store Restaurant, and Rachel moved on to become the senior pastry chef at Hilton's Fish Restaurant.
Sunil later moved on to become Head chef at Auckland Fish Market, where he ran their restaurant - Seafood Central, the café and sushi bar.
After 4 years in Auckland and with a young family they decided it was time to move back to Taranaki to persue their dream of opening their own restaurant.
A few months later they purchased the iconic Kauri Cottage and set about restoring the classic villa to what it was once known for.
After redecorating the restaurant and refitting the kitchen, they opened the doors to the public on the 8th May 2017.
